This circuit uses a 555 timer to slowly flash, or "throb" a bulb. While hi-speed circuits are fun to play with, slow speed circuits afford a lot of opportunity to experiment as well. For lots of current gain, I set the hFE of the transistor to 150. Adjust R1 to control the rate of throbbing.
